Tana Flora PLC. inagurated the newly built class rooms

Tana Flora PLC. inagurated the newly built class rooms donated to Tana Dar elementary school in Bahirdar to its surrounding community with a cost of 2.5 million ETB. The brand new building holds five classrooms to minimize the congestion that the school faces. It will also allow for more children to have access to a primary school education.The Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA), also extended its support by equipping the class rooms with the necessary educational tools. In addition to this, Tana Flora PLC. donated 2.7 million birr for the infrastructure of electricity. On the event different government officials and community representatives were in attendance.

Agro-logistics described critical part of horticulture sector

One of the Hortiflora Expo sideline panel discussions which witnessed active participation of visitors and academicians was held Friday March 15, 2019 with the title: “The Need for Smart and Cool Agro-Logistics in Ethiopia”.
The need for introducing smart and cool agro-logistics is extremely important for the development of Ethiopia’s horticulture sector. It was emphasized during the discussion that from production point to service delivery the cool chain should be one chain and inter-connected. Agro-logistics is a critical part of the horticulture sector because its export hinges on temperature-monitored mode.

Ethiopian Cargo Managing Director Fitsum Abadi who was also a panelist on the occasion said that Ethiopian is investing in compartmentalized cold storage and training of human power needed in using the cool chain equipment. Moderated by the Netherlands Ambassador, Bengt Van Loosdrecht, the panel highlighted that there exists capacity gap in various sectors in the country’s logistics and that attention need to be given to the relationship between logistics and human resource.

EHPEA has delivered occupational safety and health training

EHPEA training department has delivered occupational safety and health training for farm safety officers for four days from December 18 to 21 /2018.The objective of the training was to capacitate farms and share best practice regarding occupational safety and health in industry(Sector).

EHPEA Discussed on Overseas Market Cooperation with AERA

Agri-Enterprise Resourceful Association discussed with EHPEA on cooperation of overses market. AERA is a primary nongovernmental private – board which focuses on the fields of agriculture, especially on agricultural inputs and processing. AERA was initiated by 7 academicians and 23 agricultural top 100’s enterpreneurs in 2014. Currently it has 41 members who are being one of the top Chinese Agricultural industry. The association is dedicatedly run by the AEC profesional agricultural consulting company focusing on building industry-integrity-group for Chinese agriculture.

On the meeting the representatives reflected their members intrest to collaborate in food  processing and agricultural input supply. EHPEA Executive Director Mr. Tewodros Zewdie briefed the over all potential of the sector mensioning that regarding compliance, EHPEA member farms are certified of international certifications and ready to expand their market.

The representatives visited Minaye Flowers PLC, Hawassa industrial park and other associations.

EHPEA attracted investors at IFTF expo Holland

EHPEA promoted horticulture at IFTF expo held in Holland November 7-9, 2018. On the expo a collection of different varieties of members’ product have been displayed on the stand. As part of investment attraction, EHPEA discussed with five Dutch potential investors who are interested to invest on the new horticulture corridors. The investment believed to create employment opportunities for 10,000 youngster. In addition to this the expo attracted many buyers and creates market linkage.

ERCA to start One Window Service as of August

Ethiopian single window program office announced that beginning from the first week of August 2018 ERCA will start One Window Service stationed at its head office.

The system allows all participants in trade and transport file requested information in only one place, in a standard format, in order to carry out import, export and transit operations.

According to UNCTAD trade efficiency study; average trade transaction goes through 27-30 person, at least 40 documents involved passing through around 40 institutions. Due to this process the trader faces unnecessary/excessive data and documentation requirements, lack of transparency, excessive clearance times and lack of coordination.

One Window Service will be the new method of trading benefiting as a tool of good governance and business efficiency. Once it’s applied all traders will enjoy the service of lower cost ; because of shorter time for the preparation of documents, Goods released faster, predictable and efficient explanation and implementation of rules and procedures with more transparency work flow.

Ethiopian Airlines starts direct flight to Chicago, U.S.A June 10, 2018

Ethiopian Airlines, the largest Aviation Group in Africa and SKYTRAX certified Four Star Global Airline, is pleased to announce that it has started services to Chicago as of June 10, 2018. The inaugural flight to Chicago was announced at a colorful ceremony held at the VIP Salon of Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in the presence of Ambassador of the United States to Ethiopia, H.E. Mr. Michael Raynor, members of the Diplomatic Corps, Ethiopian Executive Management members and invited guests.

“Chicago will be our 4th destination in the U.S. and our 7th in the Americas. It is the third biggest city in the U.S. and one of the most important global aviation hubs. We will be filling a critical air connectivity vacuum as our flights will be the only direct service between Chicago and Africa.
