A meeting on the findings of an assessment conducted by Ethiopian Agricultural Authority (EAA) on the False Codling Moth (FCM) held this afternoon at EHPEA in the presence of Ambassador Driba Kuma and Ato Wondale Habtamu, Director General and Deputy Director General of EAA respectively, member farms and EHPEA.

EHPEA, Ethiopian Agricultural Authority and Trade Mark East Africa have linked Memorandum of Understanding for phytosanitary certificate

EHPEA, Ethiopian Agricultural Authority and Trade Mark East Africa have linked Memorandum of Understanding to modernize the issuance of phyto sanitary certificate electronically, to upgrade the ICT infrastructure both at the Authority and EHPEA as well as to exchange experince among other countries.

Ambassador Driba Kuma, Director General of the Ethiopian Agriculture Authority, Ato Ewnetu Taye Country Director of TMEA and Ato Tewodros Zewdie Executive Director of EHPEA have signed the MoU.

TMEA is going to fully finance the projects that are going to be executed.

EHPEA members farms in Koka built a Kindergarten school equipped with school equipment

Horticulture farms in Koka cluster, Zuqualla Horti PLC, Florensis Abyssinia PL, and Desa plant PLC are known for their charity works believing in giving back to the community.

The newly built school which costs ETB 2,928,126.66, inaugurated in the presence of AbaGeda, DR. Tola Beriso from Oromia education office and major actors of the sector in the region as well as community representatives.

EHPEA and MPS Group sign memorandum to strengthen cooperation

On 9 November, EHPEA (Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association) and MPS Group signed a Memorandum to strengthen the cooperation between both organisations. EHPEA and MPS Group will cooperate to implement the HortiFootprint Calculator amongst EHPEA members in Flowers & Ornamentals. Cooperation with industry partners is essential in order to improve together.

Mr Nega Mequanint, Board Chairman EHPEA, signed the Memorandum in presence of Mr Tewodros Zewdie, Executive Director EHPEA, and Mrs Yordanos Jemal, Board Member EHPEA. For MPS Group the Memorandum was signed by Mr Daan de Vries, CEO Group, accompanied by Mr Edmund Timm, Manager Commerce & Marketing MPS Group, and Mr Arthij van der Veer, Area Manager Africa.

By using the HortiFootprint Calculator, grower partners from EHPEA will have the opportunity to not only measure their carbon footprint but also to simulate proposed improvements. Hereby, the objective for both growers and the floriculture industry in Ethiopia is to work towards climate neutral production.

A consultative meeting on the emerging pest ‘Thaumatotibia leucotreta’ held at Capital hotel

A consultative meeting on the emerging pest ‘Thaumatotibia leucotreta’ held at Capital hotel today, in the presence of Ambassador Diriba Kuma, Director General for Ethiopian Agriculture Authority, representatives from Agriculture Councel section at The Kingdom of The Netherlands Embassy in Ethiopia and Horticulture export farms in Ethiopia.

The meeting is expected to create a concessions to address the immediate requests of the European Commission Directorate General for Health and Food Safety.

Thaumatotibia leucotreta is one of the pests with the greatest economic and environmental impact according to the EU.

EHPEA TVET Center provided a training in collaboration with UNIDO

EHPEA TVET Center in collaboration with UNIDO provided training for 201 chemical sprayers and 90 pack-house workers on chemical spraying and vegetable packaging techniques respectively.

Trainees are selected from 67 cooperatives under Meki Batu Fruits and Vegetable Producers Cooperative Union aiming at capitalizing on the growing opportunities for livelihoods and employment generation at Bulbula Integrated Agro-Industrial Park (Bulbula IAIP), Investment for new opportunities for employment (UNIDO INOE), and Oromia Industrial Parks Development Corporation (OIPDC).

“We have concluded the wage negotiations of the Koka and Bishoftu horticulture clusters in the presence of the trade unions and management of the farms. President of the National Federation of Farm Plantations, Fishery and Agro Industry Trade Unions and myself facilitated the negotiations.

We have noticed remarkable improvements in the capacity to negotiate and also in understanding sectoral trends both by the trade unions and management of farms.

Inflation continue to be a challenge irrespective of the agreed increments.

The aim is to move to living wages in the coming years”

EHPEA TVET Center delivered a training on Internal Auditing Skill

EHPEA TVET Center successfully delivered Internal Auditing Skill Training for farm internal auditors and compliance managers from September 19 to 22/2022 at Dreamland Hotel and Resort Bishoftu. The training mainly focuses on the practical implementations of the EHPEA Code of practices and other international market standards for the horticulture sector.
