Boosting Vegetable Production in Ethiopia!

Vegetable growers in Ethiopia came together today to discuss how to create a winning environment for this booming industry!

The seminar, organized by BASF | Nunhems and EastChem, focused on “The Impact of Current Global Trends on Vegetable Production in Ethiopia”.

Nunhems, with over 20 years of experience, shared their insights on innovative vegetable production technologies and the global trends in consumption for high-end produce.

With a favorable climate, vast irrigation potential, trainable workforce and proximity to major global markets, Ethiopia has a huge competitive advantage for the production of horticulture.

On the seminar, it was stated that Ethiopia can benefit if policies, infrastructures, and incentives of the government to attract both foreign and domestic investors engaged in vegetable production found to be attractive.

The event provided a valuable platform for participants to explore opportunities in the global vegetable supply chain.

A training on Reefer Container OPERATION and MAINTENANCE held at EHPEA training center

A four-day theoretical and practical training on REFRIGERATED CONTAINER OPERATION and MAINTENANCE was held from April 16-19,2024 at EHPEA training center and also in the field.

27 farm technicians drawn from flower, fruit and vegetable farms as well as logistic service provider companies have attended the training.

Refrigerated containers carry perishable cargo that requires smart and efficient temperature management. Thus, reefer containers require proper operation and maintenance.

It is crucial to equip farm technicians with the necessary knowledge and skill to operate and maintain reefer containers.

The training was delivered by a seasoned guru of REFRIGERATION, Simon Benard, who used to own Geerlofs Refrigeration and IP Handlers among his versatile experience.

He volunteered to deliver the training through PUM.

We will continue to build capacity in Cool Chain management.

EHPEA Links Input Suppliers with Sidama Farms

The Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) hosted a successful B2B session today at the Rori Hotel in Hawassa. This event addressed a key need identified in a recent assessment: connecting horticulture farms in the Sidama National Regional State with reliable input suppliers.

The B2B session provided a valuable platform for growers to meet the right suppliers and access crucial information. Participant feedback highlighted successful connections and access to high-quality seeds, planting materials, affordable fertilizers, crop protection products, vermicompost, and packaging materials.

This initiative demonstrates EHPEA’s commitment to empowering Sidama’s horticulture sector and fostering its sustainable growth.
