EHPEA proudly commemorated International Women’s Day under the inspiring theme, “Accelerate Action for an Inclusive Workplace.” Our event was enriched with an awareness session led by the dedicated senior staff of the Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia, addressing vital topics like cervical, prostate, and breast cancer.

We engaged in meaningful discussions on workplace policies and inclusiveness, all aimed at fostering a healthier and more equitable work environment for every employee. Together, we can build a workplace where everyone feels valued and supported!

EHPEA Enhances Skills at Elite Agro East Africa with FCM Training

EHPEA Bahirdar office team delivered vital training on False Codling Moth (FCM) identification and management to 110 employees at Elite Agro East Africa.

The training, combining theoretical instruction with practical demonstrations, targeted a diverse group including greenhouse workers, harvesters, scouters, and supervisors.

The program empowers staff to effectively manage FCM and maintain high production standards. Further training sessions are scheduled to farms in the cluster .

Strategic Alliance Formed to Bolster Ethiopian Horticulture Sector

TechnoServe (TNS), the Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA), and the Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI) have formalized a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

This collaboration will focus on key initiatives including; Nursery and Global GAP certification, Accelerating the CEHA Ethiopia roadmap, and Enhancing the horticulture business climate.

This partnership, uniting government, private sector, and international NGO expertise, aims to drive sustainable development and competitiveness within the Ethiopian horticulture industry.

EHPEA Annual General Assembly Highlights Industry Progress

The Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) convened its annual General Assembly at the Skylight Hotel, bringing together member farms to review the fiscal year’s achievements, current progress update and address ongoing challenges.

The meeting showcased significant progress in several key areas mainly on the improved business environment through avdvocacy, capacity building and market linkage.

EHPEA remains committed to addressing its members interest and continuing its efforts to support the growth and development of the Ethiopian horticulture industry.

Ethiopian Media Women Association Explore Flower Farms, Witness Industry Impact

Batu, Ethiopia – Twenty two journalists from national media outlets and influential women YouTubers recently toured flower farms in Batu, gaining firsthand insight into the industry’s operations and positive contributions.

The visit, organized by Sher Ethiopia Plc., Ziway Roses Plc., AQ Roses, Bram flowers, and Herburg Rose in collaboration with the Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association, showcased the farms’ daily operations, aligned with good agricultural practices.

The media team explored various aspects of the floriculture industry, including job creation, women’s empowerment, knowledge and technology transfer, and the industry’s economic impact at both local and national levels. They also learned about corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in education and health, as well as sustainability practices such as water treatment and recycling, composting, and international competitiveness.

Participants expressed amazement at the farms’ commitment to sustainability and knowledge transfer. The tour provided valuable exposure to the floriculture industry’s multifaceted contributions to Ethiopia’s economy and social development.

Ethiopia Showcases Horticulture Excellence at Fruit Logistica 2025

Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) in cooperation with CBI-Center For the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries delivered a training and coaching session on ‘Effective Trade Fair Participation and Stand Behavior’ today at Messe Berlin for Ethiopian based horticulture farms that will exhibit at Fruit Logistica #FL25 starting tomorrow.

A total of 10 farms will be exhibiting at Fruit Logistica 2025 #FL25 which will be opening tomorrow.

Zuqualla Horti PLC Invests in Education and Community Well-being.

Zuqualla Horti PLC continues to demonstrate its commitment to the local community with recent investments in education and access to clean water.

The company recently inaugurated two new classrooms at Beka Kebele Buurara Boru Beka School. The ceremony was attended by esteemed officials, including Mr. Girma Lema, Head of the East Shewa Zone Education Office; Mr. Kamal Ibrahim, Head of Politics for Lume District; and the Head of the Lume District Education Office. These officials expressed their gratitude for Zuqualla Horti PLC’s ongoing support and dedication to the community.

Bahir Dar Flower Farms Bloom for Valentine’s Day Export

Despite facing various challenges, flower farms in the Bahir Dar cluster are anticipating a significant surge in both demand and production in the lead-up to Valentine’s Day. A substantial portion of these blooms, exceeding 15 tons daily, are destined for the European market.

Four prominent farms—Ethio-Agriceft, Tana Flora, Selecta, and Elight Agroindustry—are leading this export effort, showcasing the region’s growing prominence in the global flower trade. This Valentine’s Day promises to be a successful season for Bahir Dar’s cluster flower industry, highlighting its resilience and capacity to meet international demand.

Ethiopian Airlines to uplift flowers for valentine season from Bahir Dar Cluster.

We are happy for the commencement of freighter operation by Ethiopian Airlines to uplift flowers for valentine season from Bahir Dar Cluster.

Bahir Dar Cluster has emerged as one of the ideal location for the production and export of quality and variety of flowers.

Ethiopian Airlines is now daily uplifting flowers using freighter aircraft from Bahir Dar.

EHPEA and Oromia Water Bureau Host Workshop on Water Resources Development Fund Proclamation

EHPEA in collaboration with Oromia Water and Energy Bureau hosted a familiarization workshop yesterday at Bishoftu Pyramid Hotel on the Proclamation to Establish Oromia Region Water Resources Development Fund, Number 233/2021 and Regulation No. 236/2015 E.C to implement the proclamation.

During the session officials of Oromia Water and Energy Bureau explained about the rationals that institute the proclamation and the regulation.

According to them, it is found necessary to develop, nurture and maintain the water resource of the region, to prevent the draining and pollution of water resource and thereby make it to be used sustainably and safeguard the interests of the future generation. To this end the fund is established, they mentioned.

During the session implementation challenges particularly the fee requested by some town offices and other challenges were raised and direction is set to address wrong interpretations of the proclamation and the regulation.

During the session horticulture farms drawn from different clusters, representatives of Minstry of Agriculture, various municipalities water and energy office heads and officials of the Water and Energy Burea were in attendance.

The Ethiopian horticulture export industry has taken bold measures to reduce the water foot print of the industry. Accordingly, 43 used water treatment plants are constructed and many more are under construction to reuse, recycle and reduce treated water. On the basis of EHPEA’s request, a National Horticulture Effluent is also developed and enacted.

On top of that EHPEA has been undertaking series of capacity building interventions on designing and maintaining used water treatment plants.
