The EHPEA TVET center provided advanced training on a Compliance and Sustainability for its member farms. The training primarily emphasized current compliance issues, understanding the EHPEA code, and other international market standards with experience sharing program on farm among participants.

This comprehensive training aims to enhance compliance practices and promote sustainable production approaches within the Ethiopian Horticulture sector.

Exciting Milestone achieved in Sidama Region

We’re thrilled to announce a pivotal event that took place at Hawassa, today May 9, 2024

In a significant development for the Horticulture sector, a high-profile meeting was convened to address the establishment of the Sidama National Regional State Horticulture Investment and Export Promotion Taskforce. This gathering brought together higher government officials of Sidama Regional State to deliberate on strategies for advancing horticulture investment and export promotion initiatives within the region.

Moreover, the meeting concluded with a landmark moment as representatives from various governmental bodies came together to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This document solidifies commitments and outlines collaborative efforts to propel the horticulture sector to new heights.

EHPEA is representing its member farms at Macfruit Expo 2024 in Rimini, Italy!

This premier event brings together fruit and vegetable professionals from around the globe from May 8th to 10th.

The exhibition is a great platform to discover the latest advancements in biosolutions, explore the Innovation Hub for Healthy Food, visit plant nurseries showcasing diverse options, see high-tech agricultural machinery in action as well as encounter a vast array of fresh and dry produce.

It also offers the opportunity for the Association member farms who co-exhibit, to connect with industry leaders and learn about the future of the fruit and vegetable sector!

Boosting Vegetable Production in Ethiopia!

Vegetable growers in Ethiopia came together today to discuss how to create a winning environment for this booming industry!

The seminar, organized by BASF | Nunhems and EastChem, focused on “The Impact of Current Global Trends on Vegetable Production in Ethiopia”.

Nunhems, with over 20 years of experience, shared their insights on innovative vegetable production technologies and the global trends in consumption for high-end produce. 

With a favorable climate, vast irrigation potential, trainable workforce and proximity to major global markets, Ethiopia has a huge competitive advantage for the production of horticulture. 

On the seminar, it was stated that Ethiopia can benefit if policies, infrastructures, and incentives of the government to attract both foreign and domestic investors engaged in vegetable production found to be attractive.

The event provided a valuable platform for participants to explore opportunities in the global vegetable supply chain.

A training on Reefer Container OPERATION and MAINTENANCE held at EHPEA training center

A four-day theoretical and practical training on REFRIGERATED CONTAINER OPERATION and MAINTENANCE was held from April 16-19,2024 at EHPEA training center and also in the field.

27 farm technicians drawn from flower, fruit and vegetable farms as well as logistic service provider companies have attended the training.

Refrigerated containers carry perishable cargo that requires smart and efficient temperature management. Thus, reefer containers require proper operation and maintenance.

It is crucial to equip farm technicians with the necessary knowledge and skill to operate and maintain reefer containers.

The training was delivered by a seasoned guru of REFRIGERATION, Simon Benard, who used to own Geerlofs Refrigeration and IP Handlers among his versatile experience.

He volunteered to deliver the training through PUM.

We will continue to build capacity in Cool Chain management.

EHPEA SHARED ITS SUCCESS STORIES WITH DIFFERENT CHAMBERS AND SECTORAL ASSOCIATIONS

We are privileged to share Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association’s (#EHPEA) success stories with regard to evidence based policy advocacy, financial sustainability, capacity building interventions to elevate members competitiveness internationally, business development services, gender interventions and other interventions that are targeted at ensuring social and environmental sustainability to Presidents, Board Members, Secretary Generals of different Regional and City Chambers as well as Sectoral Associations at our office on April 17, 2024.

The event was organized in collaboration with GIZ SRVC program.

EHPEA Links Input Suppliers with Sidama Farms

The Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) hosted a successful B2B session today at the Rori Hotel in Hawassa. This event addressed a key need identified in a recent assessment: connecting horticulture farms in the Sidama National Regional State with reliable input suppliers.

The B2B session provided a valuable platform for growers to meet the right suppliers and access crucial information. Participant feedback highlighted successful connections and access to high-quality seeds, planting materials, affordable fertilizers, crop protection products, vermicompost, and packaging materials.

This initiative demonstrates EHPEA’s commitment to empowering Sidama’s horticulture sector and fostering its sustainable growth.

A Public-Private Dialogue Workshop Conducted Successfully in Hawassa

The Sidama Region Chamber of Commerce & Sectoral Association, in collaboration with the Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA), successfully conducted a regional Agribusiness Public-Private Dialogue Workshop in Hawassa.

The workshop facilitated a robust exchange of ideas and responsibilities, centered around the initial research findings pertinent to each participating institutions.

It also served as an effective discussion platform, harnessing the region’s abundant potential within the horticulture and coffee subsectors.

On the event regional Bureau Heads, growers, public sector representatives, financial institutions, and donor organizations were in attendance.

FCM training targeted to capacitate 10,000 workers began in holeta cluster

A training on the identification and management of False Codling Moth began in Holeta cluster for member farms engaged in the floriculture business this week, by Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association TVET Center experts.

The Association targeted to capacitate 10,000 farm workers in the area, within the next months.
