Supply of safety materials, tools and provision of training provided to Meki Batu Fruits and vegetables Growers’ Cooperative union, with the support of UNIDO and technical assistance of EHPEA.

The project incorporated provision of training by EHPEA TVET Center for 201 chemical sprayers and 90 pack-house workers on chemical spraying and vegetable packaging techniques respectively.

The trainees selected from 67 cooperatives under Meki Batu Fruits and Vegetable Producers Cooperative Union aiming, capitalizing on the growing opportunities for livelihoods and employment generation at Bulbula Integrated Agro-Industrial Park (Bulbula IAIP), Investment for new opportunities for employment (UNIDO INOE), and Oromia Industrial Parks Development Corporation (OIPDC).

The handover ceremony took place in the presence of UNIDO & EHPEA management representatives, Meki Batu Union management staff and members of the Union.

EHPEA Services Introduction Program

EHPEA introduced its services to non member companies who are engaged in the production and export of flower, fruit, vegetable and seedling business, with an objective to encourage membership commitment to building a sustainable future for horticulture sector in Ethiopia.

On the event the need for synergy and the expected support from the Association discused at length.

The companies also showed their interest to join EHPEA by submitting membership application.

Along with the discussion platform, the representatives got the chance to take part at the experience sharing vist to Joytech PLC.

A promotion conference on Effective sustainable green waste management technologies

The Ethiopian floriculture industry has kept on turning green waste in to nutritious organic and liquid fertilizer by widely applying #vermicomposting and #effectivemicroorganisms.

Herburg Roses has become a pioneer in turning the flower green waste in to bio-gas in Ethiopia.

Today, a multitude of stakeholders drawn from Federal and Regional government offices, academic and research institutions, NGOs, development partners and farms have deliberated at length on research findings and best practices of scaling up the conversion of green waste into compost and liquid fertilizers, bio char and other beneficial materials at Batu, Haile Resort.

EHPEA has been leading the various initiatives of managing the liquid and solid farm waste in the horticulture industry.

A Familiarization workshop on EHPEA gender intervention capacity building program

A Familiarization workshop on EHPEA gender intervention capacity building program held Hilton Addis Ababa hotel on December 22, 2022.

On the workshop the impact of the program on contributing to strengthen the institutional value, creating decent working environment and the lead to a greater engagement with gender equality in discussed at length.

Farmers who are benefiting from the program also gave their testimonials emphasizing the unique feature of EHPEA capacity building program and its contribution on their business.

Invitees from international donors, industrial park multinational companies, government agencies, private sector actors and other stockholders were in attendance.

A familiarization workshop conducted on the ‘Horticulture industry effluent discharge limit (standard)

A familiarization workshop was conducted on the “Horticulture Industry Effluent Discharge Limit (Standard)” today at the Hilton Hotel Addis Ababa.

The standard developed by Institute of Ethiopian Standard, through the continuous lobby and support of Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA).

The waste management standards provide the guides, practices, and test methods pertinent to the process of handling commercial wastes. This process involves the collection, transport, processing, and recycling or disposal (whichever is applicable) of waste materials for health, environmental, and/or aesthetic purposes.

The workshop was a great platform where the farms, responsible government offices and stakeholders reflected their comments to have a holistic concession on the standard.

On the workshop the farms stated the need of allocating time frame as a transition period to fully adopt the required standards, parameters and sampling frequency.

EHPEA, has been supporting its member farms to implement used water management & green waste management at their farms. Up to date 40 farms constructed a Wetland System and practicing biomass management (composting) in adopting bio-energy technologies to improve green waste management.

EHPEA WITH COLLABORATION OF COLEACP PROVIDED A TRAING ON FCM

As part of putting in place, a protocol for the prevention of False Codling Moth (Thaumatotibia leucotreta), EHPEA in collaboration with COLEACP provides training for 55 Experts from EHPEA, EAA, and Commercial farms.


The training was conducted for two days which includes a one-day practical session for the identification of the pest at Debreziet.

On the conference, the minister stated that the green legacy initiative provided greater attention to commercial crops impacting livelihoods across the country.

EHPEA organized awareness creation and voluntary counselling ON World AIDS Day

As the world commemorates World AIDS Day each year on December 1st, EHPEA organized awareness creation and voluntary counselling along with testing service at its member farm ‘Yassin Legesse Flower Farm’ in collaboration with Babugaya Health Center.

During the event farms also shared their experience in prevention of HIV AIDS and the needful support discussed at length.

This year World AIDS Day focuses on a specific theme, ‘Equalize’ which indicates and urging each of us to address the inequalities which are holding back progress in ending AIDS. This year’s theme joins a growing list of challenges that World AIDS Day has alerted people to globally.

On the campaign responsible Bishoftu town health office, other government office representatives and more than 8 horticulture farms located in Bishoftu were in attendance.
