EHPEA Celebrated Ethiopian New Year at Floriade Expo 2022.

Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA), celebrated Ethiopian New Year colorfully on September 11, 2022 at its country pavilion on Floriade Expo 2022 , Almere The Netherlands.


The event was a great platform to promote Ethiopian investment in horticulture business while addressing sustainability and strengthen the deepening of economic ties between the two countries.


Ambassador Hirut Zemene, Ambassador of Ethiopia to the Benelux countries and the EU Institutions, Dr. Sofiya Kassa, State Minister of Ministry of Agriculture, Nega Mequanint, Board Chairman of EHPEA, accompanied by higher government officials and stakeholders attended the event.

EHPEA TVET Center delivered training on occupational health and safety (OHS)

EHPEA TVET Center delivered training on occupational health and safety (OHS) including risk assessment, OHS management system, OHS officer responsibilities, OHS Policy and its implementation strategies and risk assessment for EHPEA member farms.

The training delivered at Bishoftu town, Dream land hotel from August 22-25/2022 with a farm visit and experience sharing on the last day of the training.

Environmental Compliance Status of Floriculture Farms in Ethiopia

A productive evaluation session on environmental compliance status of floriculture farms in Ethiopia held at Bishoftu/Debrezeit in the presence of Director General of Oromia Environment Protection Authority and officials of Federal Environment Protection Authority.

Participants drawn from EHPEA, cut flower and cutting farms, environmental compliance inspectors, trainers and the officials have discussed in detail the best practices, challenges, and the way forward after compliance status of farms is presented by both Federal and Oromia Inspectors.

The session is quite imperative to ensure the global competitiveness and sustainability of the Ethiopian floriculture industry.

EHPEA hosted an event with an objective to create awareness and market linkage with the Unions and Agro-processers.

Unions who are engaged in the production of cereal and vegetables linked with Bure IAIP investors on July 28th, 2022.

Under Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) partnership agreement with GIZ for ‘Cluster Support for Agricultural and Food Industries in Ethiopia’, EHPEA hosted the event with an objective to create awareness and market linkage with the Unions and Agro-processers.

The program was a great platform to learn from similar successful business models such as; how they source their supply, work relationship and as well as identify possible bottlenecks, risks and propose mitigation actions proposed by the participants who are drawn from responsible government offices and stakeholders.

A Memorandem of Understanding (MoU) signed between Horticulture companies and projects of German Cooperation

A Memorandem of Understanding (MoU) signed between Horticulture companies and projects of German Cooperation, represented by #GIZ, to cooperate in the formation of ‘Horticulture Cluster’ in #Bahirdar and its surrounding areas on July 06, 2022 at Avanti Blue Nile Hotel.

The program organized by Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) and GIZ with an initiative to leverage the geographical specialization of horticulture clusters and promote integrated and market-led development of preproduction, production, post-harvest, logistics, branding, marketing, skill development activities and create synergy to resolve the challenges of the sector.

Up to date there are 9 farms engaged in the production and export business of flowers, fruits and vegetables in Bahirdar area.
The cluster development will also benefit the small holder farmers intermes of cost reduction of input, production and logistics.

The regional government office representatives stated the commitment of the region to support the sector by availing additional Horticulture corridors and work on the betterment of the existing infrastructure.

International Conference on Biological Control

An International Conference on Biological Control held on May 26,2022 at Hilton Addis Ababa.
EHPEA, organized this conference with an objective of creating a learning platform on the past, present, and future trends and patterns of Biological Pest Management in Ethiopia.


On the conference, the quest for sustainability of the Ethiopian horticulture industry, biological pest management status of the sector, trends and patterns of bio-agent use and research status of biological agent in Ethiopia had been presented and discussed at length.


In addition to this commercial farms and bio-agent suppliers, execute a panel discussion on past, present and future of biological pest management practices, challenges, and marketing in Ethiopia.


Government officials, commercial farms, development partners and other stakeholders participated.
Different stakeholders from abroad were in attendance virtually.

Avocado Cluster Development Workshop

Cluster Development Workshop on Avocado Production has been held on May 20, 2022 at Radisson Blu Hotel in collaboration with EHPEA and GIZ.

Stakeholders, responsible government office representatives, private sectors who are engaged in the production of Avocado production, export and agro-processing business, international organizations, as well as potential investors were attendees of the workshop.

Strawberry production and latest insight on crop management training

EHPEA TVET center in collaboration with its partners commence providing training on strawberry production and latest insight on crop management for commercial farms, university lecturers and investment officers at Bahirdar.

The training will continue in the coming days at Holeta cluster.

EHPEA training center is delivering a series of practical trainings for Zengena and Mota Cooperative Union, Commercial Farms, Agricultural Office Experts, and Agro-processing Industrial Parks as part of a GIZ-EHPEA project named “Cluster Support for the Agriculture and Food Industries in Ethiopia.”

The training program is designed to help cooperatives, unions, and commercial farms comprehend the quality and market needs of products, as well as appropriate agricultural practices, in order to promote a feasible link between smallholder farmers and the agro-processing sector.
